The Six R's for Changing MInds and Overcoming Resistance

This article borrows from Howard Gardner’s book, “Changing Minds” (2004). In order to get people in conflict to cooperate or collaborate sufficiently to settle or resolve their differences, and perhaps achieve reconciliation, it is necessary that they change their minds. The reason they are in dispute is because they are of two different minds about a particular thing, which is what they are fighting over. People do not change their minds easily. Some people are prepared to be burned at the stake, literally, rather than change their minds, or admit to a change of belief. People cling to the artifacts of their own minds with great stubbornness. This is called resistance. When a... read full article > >

Seven Reasons Why Seasonal Marketing Sells Products

The celebration of Thanksgiving is approaching and later on will come Christmas, then New Year's, Saint Valentines Day and so on... Now, what is so special about each celebration? They all increase the selling of products. There are many reasons why you should consider seasonal marketing to promote your products, including the seven which are listed below: 1. People tend to buy more products during seasonal celebrations than the rest of the year. 2. People are determined to purchase products, so it is easier to persuade them to purchase a product you offer (assuming of course you are doing it the right way). 3. Most purchases concern gifts to others, therefore quality is what matters while price is less significant.... read full article > >

How to Find Sustain and Share Happiness

Happiness- you can’t beg for it or buy it or even barter for it. You can however create it and better yet sustain it. If you want to be happier long-term make creating and sustaining happiness a priority and apply the following happiness sustaining principals. Choose it The old adage, "people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be" is true. Choose to live a life of happiness. When you are not ask yourself why and begin to irradiate your happiness block. Be present now At any moment all we have is that moment. Putting our attention on the past and the future makes it impossible for us to fully experience this moment right now. One way to remind yourself to be present is to take a... read full article > >

Data Recovery - The Solution For Data Loss

Is there something more annoying than losing a paper you saved in your computer, on which you worked for weeks? I guess not. For this reason, data recovery is the word of law for people who use computer in their jobs or for school or college. Many things can cause data loss, such as accidentally deleting files, having your system invaded and corrupted by hackers, power failure when you hadn't saved what you had been writing and other hundreds of possibilities. The truth is: everybody that uses a computer will experience data loss at some point in their lives. Well, if we are not safe from experiencing data loss, what can help us recover the data we've lost. If we lose something personal, in our homes, it's not as serious as if... read full article > >

Subscriber Incentives: Are They Effective?

Peter Boulder of Pepper and Rodgers Group tells a story of a friend of his who recently visited New York City. His friend spotted an ad that read something like: "Buy at our grocery store and if the cashier doesn't smile at you when you check out, everything in your cart is free." Impressed, he made a straight line for the store in question and filled up his shopping cart with everything he'd need for a week. To his chagrin, the lady at checkout not only didn't smile, but didn't even look at him. But there was some consolation in the situation, he thought, and he triumphantly claimed his bounty of free groceries. The cashier, however, denied any knowledge... read full article > >

Your Own Internet Business - Is it possible?

The other day I picked up a Reader's Digest magazine (a very popular Canadian magazine) and glanced at the cover. The designers of Reader's Digest are very good at catching your attention and making you want to read whatever they have in their magazine. There on the front I noticed a headline on the left side of the cover page - "Your Hobby and Your Computer = Money." Even though I already had an Internet business and was quite happy with its progress I was curious to see the contents of this article. I opened up the magazine and read the article within about ten minutes. It talked about a woman who started selling teddy bears that she made from fur coats on eBay for $200 - $300 a piece. It also talked... read full article > >

A Marketing Lesson From TV's American Idol

I love the reality TV show American Idol. And probably not for the reason you think. Yes, it's entertaining to watch all those very bad singers get up and act as if they're the next Kelly Clarkson. But that's not why I love it.I love it because it's a show about people who have a dream and are willing to do whatever it takes to make that dream come true. Its about people who don't let anything get between themselves and success. They're not afraid to take a risk. And put themselves out there and possibly fail. They're not afraid to work hard. They know success isn't always about being good at what you do. How many great singers are out there who no one... read full article > >

Oil Shortgages - A Solution

Many of us remember the oil shortages of the late seventies. They caused more than just the inconvenience of occasional gasoline rationing. Several elderly people actually died in the New York City area because of a lack of heating oil. Some people thought it would only get worse, and we would run out of oil completely before long.Interestingly, at the same time, gold and other things much rarer than oil were available to anyone who wanted them. This gives us a clue to what causes an oil shortage, or any other shortage. It is usually just one thing.Oil Shortages Are Caused By Price ControlsActually, almost all long term shortages of basic commodities in a modern economy are caused by price... read full article > >

Does your body have enough vitamin D?

Our skin makes vitamin D from exposure to the ultraviolet rays in the sun. However, people living in temperate countries or in higher latitudes may get less UV exposure. Other complication arises like the fear of skin cancer which prompts many people to apply sun block which block the ability of the skin to make vitamin D. Another reason may be due to our busy working career. We are stuck in the office from morning to night leaving us with precious little time to be exposed to the sun. Lastly, some people for some reason may dislike going out in the sun. That's why the diet rich in vitamin D is essential. Food that contains vitamin D include fish, eggs, milk and cereal. The problem is that our diet do... read full article > >

Dear Secretary Snow; Give the Fair Tax a Fair Chance.

I understand that there is an enormous inertia in the present tax system. The incremental complication of the tax code over the last 80 years has given birth to an entire industry that is fully capable of defending their turf. These are challenging times. The American people are equally unhappy with this administration and the Democratic opposition over the handling of the war in Iraq. There has been a lack of planning, and open discussion that has led to a breakdown in communication. While we wrestle with the war, we grow even more cynical about the power of special interests and the remoteness of Washington. I believe the President should support HR 25 and help enact the Fair Tax initiative for the good of the nation. It would be a golden opportunity... read full article > >
